Support Responsible Home-Sharing Regulations

VOTE YES ON JERSEY CITY  MUNICIPAL QUESTION #1.
That’s why we need a sensible short-term rentals law.
That’s why we need a sensible short-term rentals law.

Unregulated short-term rentals are bad for Jersey City, but with smart regulations we can make companies like Airbnb work for our community.

PROTECTING AFFORDABLE HOUSING:

Airbnb keeps the number of available housing units artificially low, leading to higher rents and inflated home prices. Regulations will preserve affordable housing for residents, not visitors.

PRESERVING OUR QUALITY OF LIFE:

Living in Jersey City can be loud, and parking is never easy – but we can protect our quality of life with sensible regulations on short-term rentals.

MORE NEIGHBORS, FEWER STRANGERS:

Airbnb brings short-term tourists into our community. Responsible regulations mean more neighbors and fewer strangers.

 IT’S UP TO US TO
 STAND UP FOR JERSEY CITY.
Vote YES on November 5 for sensible
  home-sharing regulations!

"The Hudson County Progressive Alliance (HCPA) endorses Jersey City Ordinance 19-077, and encourages residents of Jersey City to vote “Yes” in support of Jersey City Municipal Question #1 on November 5th’s ballot. HCPA recognizes the importance of responsible regulation of the short-term rental market in Jersey City. Ordinance 19-077 preserves the original intent of home sharing by allowing owner-occupied units to continue to rent their additional space while also preventing commercial operators, many of whom are not based in Jersey City, from converting entire neighborhoods into full-time hotels, which limits housing availability and increases rental prices for residents. These rules prioritize the people of Jersey City over corporate profits, and HCPA strongly urges residents to vote “Yes” to enact them."

"The NJ Working Families supports a vote for “Yes” on Jersey City Municipal Ballot Question #1. These common-sense reforms will provide smart, community-centric regulations that will safeguard against the worst effects of home-sharing services. Home-sharing services like Airbnb take apartments off the long-term rental market, and in doing so, contribute to skyrocketing rent costs to families in already hard-to-afford communities. Smart regulation like that proposed by the Mayor can provide the best of both worlds to Jersey City residents: opportunities for small-scale home-sharing while protecting long-term residents from skyrocketing housing costs."

“The New Jersey State AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of HTC. We support regulating Airbnb rentals in Jersey City, and if this ordinance appears on the ballot in November, we will exert maximum effort and use our wealth of resources to ensure our members vote in its favor.”
